RYAN KEHOE

A 38-year-old Scranton man could spend as much as 10 years in prison after pleading guilty Friday in Wyoming County Court to homicide by vehicle while under the influence.

Ryan Christopher Kehoe, of Diamond Avenue, appeared before President Judge Russell Shurtleff who said a mandatory minimum would be three years for a May 27 crash that led to the death of a motorcyclist John Machinshok, 64, of Wilkes-Barre.

Kehoe’s 2002 BMW coupe was traveling east at about 8:35 a.m. on Route 6, about a mile east of the Wyoming County Fairgrounds in Meshoppen Twp., when his vehicle crossed lanes, crashing into Machinshok’s Harley-Davidson.

At the accident scene, Kehoe told authorities he took prescription medication for asthma, high blood pressure and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

When he provided blood and urine samples at Tyler Memorial Hospital, one test also showed positive results for methamphetamine and amphetamine, police said.

On Friday, Kehoe also pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of a controlled substance and could face an additional six months in jail along with a $5,000 fine.

Judge Shurtleff said he would be sentenced at a later date.
