The Tunkhannock Area girls basketball team dropped to 5-10 in Division 2 of the Wyoming Valley Conference after losing 67-47 to Nanticoke Area on Monday night at Tunkhannock Area High School.

With the loss, the Lady Tigers fell to 8-12 overall, but still holds the eighth and final spot for the District 2 Class 4A playoffs with two games remaining.

On Tunkhannock’s senior night on Monday, Nanticoke raced out to a 19-13 in the opening quarter before the Lady Tigers roared back to tie things up at 22-22 in the second.

However, Nanticoke responded with a run to end the half and led 36-24 heading into halftime.

The Lady Tigers would pull to within five in the third, but that would be as close as they would get, as Nanticoke pulled away with another 19-point quarter to extend its lead to 16 and put the game out of reach.

Junior Abby Ritz tied for a game-high 19 points to lead Tunkhannock, while senior Jessica Ell and junior Rebecca Avery each chopped in with a dozen points in the loss.
