The Tunkhannock Area girls basketball team picked up two road wins last week in Division 2 of the Wyoming Valley Conference.

The Lady Tigers picked up a 51-46 win at Wyoming Area on Friday night and cruised to a 46-28 victory at Meyers the day before for their second win in three games.

However, Tunkhannock also suffered two setbacks in a home game against Holy Redeemer on Monday, losing 49-39, and another home game against Wyoming Valley West on Wednesday, Jan. 31, losing 48-33.

With the wins, Tunkhannock improved to 5-9 in the division and bumped its overall record to 8-11.

Against Holy Redeemer, the Lady Tigers led 10-8 after the opening quarter before the Lady Royals made their move in the second, outscoring Tunkhannock 17-11 to lead 25-21 at halftime.

In the third, both teams cooled off for six points apiece, but Tunkhannock was unable to hold on the defensive end in the fourth and allowed Holy Redeemer to pull away with 18 points.

Junior Rebecca Avery led the Lady Tigers with a game-high 19 points, while junior Abby Ritz chipped in with a dozen points in the loss.

At Wyoming Area, Tunkhannock held a slim 7-6 lead after the opening quarter and would head into halftime trailing 18-15.

The Lady Tigers would make their run in the third, outscoring Wyoming Area 16-8 to pull ahead by five, then went punch-for-punch in the final quarter with 20 points to hold on for the win.

Avery scored a game-high 20 points to again lead Tunkhannock, senior Sam Generotti added 13 points and Ritz chipped in with 11 in the win.

At Meyers, the Lady Tigers led 10-7 after the opening quarter before outscoring their opponent 14-2 in the second to head into halftime up 24-9.

In the third, Tunkhannock scored 14 points to pull away for the win.

Ritz led a balanced scoring attack with 18 points and seniors Kelly Barber and Jessica Ell each had eight points for the Lady Tigers.

Against Valley West, Tunkhannock trailed by five after the opening quarter and were held to just two points in the second to head into halftime down 24-10.

The Lady Tigers cut their deficit to 11 after three, but were unable to make a comeback in the final quarter.
