The Tunkhannock Area boys soccer team improved to 6-4-1 in Division 1 of the Wyoming Valley Conference with two 3-1 division victories against Pittston Area on Friday and Coughlin on Wed. Oct. 4.

Against Pittston Area, senior Eddie Pietrowski put the Tigers on the board off an assist from sophomore Drew DiMeolo in the 26th minute, a score which would hold until the half.

Junior Eddie Melan scored off senior Paul DeMarco’s assist in the 63rd minute to make it 2-0, then senior Sawyer Aitken scored two minutes later off an assist from senior Billy Prebola to put the game away.

Tunkhannock outshot Pittston, 17-10, and held the corners advantage, 8-2.

Senior Matt Goodwin finished the game with eight saves, allowing his lone goal with two minutes remaining in the contest.

Against Coughlin, the Tigers trailed 1-0 with one minute left before the half until Melan found the back of the net on a penalty kick to tie things up.

In the second half, senior Sean Harder lasered in a goal in the 58th minute to give Tunkhannock the lead, and Melan scored his second goal of the game with three minutes remaining to seal the victory.

Tunkhannock held a slim shot advantage at 11-10 and corners advantage at 4-3.

Goodwin finished the game with a game-high nine saves for the Tigers and has allowed one goal or fewer in five of the team’s six wins.
