Tunkhannock Area, Lackawanna Trail and Elk Lake school districts are closed indefinitely, according to Gov. Wolf’s order of March 30.

School board meetings postponed

Tunkhannock Area School Board’s meeting originally set for March 26 did not happen, but is now expected to take place on April 2 in a virtual format. Details about visiting the meeting virtually are on the district’s website at

The Lackawanna Trail School Board canceled its April 6 work session and plans to meet virtually on Tuesday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Elk Lake has its next school board meeting set for April 16, and no
alternate plans have been posted.

No theater

The Dietrich Theater in downtown Tunkhannock which previously announced it would be closed at least through March 30, is now closed until further notice. That includes movies and all classes.

No Easter egg hunts

The Tunkhannock Kiwanis Annual Easter Egg Hunt, usually set at Baumgartner Field off Rt. 92 in Tunkhannock Township has been canceled this year.

The Meshoppen Holiday Fund has canceled its annual Easter Egg Hunt this spring, but is hopeful of having something in the future. Organizer Holly Stark said, “You’ve heard of Christmas in July, why not an egg hunt in June?”

St. Mary’s of the Lake Church at Lake Winola has canceled its annual
community Easter egg hunt that had been set for April 4.

The East Lemon United Methodist Church’s Easter Egg Hunt has been removed from the church’s activity calendar.

The Easter Egg Hunt set for Church of the Holy Redeemer at Harding on April 11 is canceled.

No fish fries

The Tunkhannock Assembly of God, Bridge Street, has canceled its fish fry for April 3, and Good Friday, April 10.

No Look at Lyme

‘A Look at Lyme’ set for April 2 at the Bradford County Library, East Burlington, is on hold because of the virus pandemic.

Tunkhannock Library

The library is closed indefinitely and expects to be so until Gov. Wolf lifts the order on schools. Patrons with due materials will not be penalized for keeping them out a little longer.

Lenten service

The Tunkhannock Ministerium’s mid week Lenten Service at the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church on April 1 is cancelled.

Bingo on hold

Bingo every other Monday at Northmoreland Volunteer Fire Company, Center Moreland, has been canceled until further notice.

Bingo every other Monday at Triton Hose Company, Tunkhannock, has been canceled until further notice.

Active Adult Centers

The Tunkhannock and Falls Active Adult Centers are closed until further notice.

No Legion meeting

Dennis Strong American Legion Post 457 canceled its April 8 meeting. Unless otherwise notified, there will be a meeting May 13.

The Wall that Heals, a traveling replica of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial which was to be in the Tunkhannock Area High School football field April 30-May 3, has been postponed to 2021.
