An Illinois man is suspected of driving under the influence when he crashed into a parked police car early Saturday morning, state police said.
A Tunkhannock Township patrolman parked his 2017 Ford Police Interceptor facing north on the shoulder of southbound Route 92 with his emergency lights on when Dylan S. Rust, 23, of Hoffman Estates, Ill., crashed into the police car head-on at 2:10 a.m., state police said.
The crash disabled both vehicles, according to police.
The township patrolman was not in the vehicle at the time.
State trooper William Clarke noted, “The police vehicle was unoccupied as the officer was outside the vehicle conducting an investigation involving runaway juveniles.”
Rust was wearing his seat belt and sustained minor injuries, Trooper Clarke noted.
He refused medical treatment but “displayed multiple signs of alcohol intoxication,” so authorities took him into custody for suspicion of DUI, according to state police.
