An Overfield Township house in Wyoming County, was destroyed by fire early Wednesday afternoon.

Lake Winola First Assistant Fire Chief Michael Dziak called it a “total loss,” and said a call went out from the Wyoming County 911 center at 1:38 p.m. after a passerby spotted smoke from a home on Lower Mill City Road.

The 2-story house was owned by Crystal Jonas but was unoccupied at the time, Dziak said.

He added that the state police fire marshal said the cause was still under investigation.

Dziak said that two firefighters encountered difficulty during the blaze that attracted five companies (Lake Winola, Dalton, Factoryville, Triton, and Northmoreland) and ambulance units from Lake Winola, Tunkhannock Community and Commonwealth Health.

One fireman suffering from heat exhaustion was treated at the scene; and another suffering from smoke inhalation was taken to Moses Taylor Hospital, Dziak said, with “both okay.”
