The Grand Champion of the 6th Annual Williams Barbecue Cookoff went to the barbecue team from Cleveland Brothers in Pittston, which consisted, from left, of Mike Duke, Maria Lynch, Nate Mead and Scott Steel.

Williams Partners sponsored another wildly successful barbecue cookoff on Friday, Sept. 8 at Lazy Brook Park in Tunkhannock Township.

The Grand Champion of the day went to Cleveland Brothers of Pittston and the People’s Choice Award went to Otis Eastern.

Winning in the ‘Elite’ category in a blind taste testing by selected jurors were Brisket by Controltech; Barbecue Ribs by S2W; and Pulled Pork by Get N Sauced (GFS).

In the ‘People’s Choice’ for Pulled Pork, first place went to Cleveland Brothers; second place to GFS; and third place to Leonard Crawford Electric.

In the ‘Peoples Choice’ for Barbecue Ribs, first place went to S2W; second place went to Meat Sweats II (Williams Bradford Team); and third place went to LMC Industrial.

In the ‘People’s Choice’ for brisket, first place went to LMC Industrial; second place went to Backdraft BBQ (Williams Bradford Team); and third place went to Phoenix Specialty.

The big winner of the day actually was the region’s United Way agencies which will share in the funds raised that day.

Williams’ Tammy Bonnice said, “We raised over $80,000 after expenses and Williams matches all eligible funds, so we will be able to donate $160,000 to local United Ways.
