Tunkhannock Area senior Kendra Schultz threw 17 strikeouts in the game against Berwick on Thursday, April 4. She kept the Bulldogs to two hits in the 10-0 shut out game. In recognition of herachievement, Schultz has been named the Wyoming County Press Examiner Athlete of the Week.

What number do you wear and why? I wear number 11 because my cousin Michael Healy wore it when he played at Tunkhannock.

Three reasons why you compete: First, for my teammates, second to better myself, and third because I have fun when I am playing.

Off season club: I used to play for the TC Tremors, but this was my first year off of travelball.

Who inspires you to be better? Honestly, my parents. They never have the mentality to yell or scream at me when I know I did something wrong, they just show me ways to better myself.

Favorite school subject: Speech and Debate with Mrs. Burke.

When did you start playing softball competitively? Fifth grade

Favorite field to compete on and why? Our home field, because it is so nice, and I’m just more comfortable at home.

What is your favorite softball memory? When we won the semifinal game in my sophomore year to go to the State championship game.

What is your dream job? Speech Pathologist

Post-graduation plans: To go to Penn State University- Main to study communication sciences and disorders.

Were you aware of how many strikeouts you had? As time went on, I tried to focus on just throwing strikes and I told myself that at the end of the game we can figure out the stats.

Your teammate and cousin is also a pitcher. Is this something that runs in the family? Well, my cousin Michael pitched, too. All of our parents pitched. I guess it is in our DNA, we just do what we know.
